This one has been in the pile all summer, and Iβm glad I set this one aside for now. Lemieuxβs personal story is so smart and relatable, she shares without shame, and her voice is light and clear despite navigating often-heavy subject matter.
In particular, I want to tag the last section of the book where Lemieux invited other Black single mothers, from activists to viral Twitter personalities, to write about their experience from their individual perspectives, centering their voices in their own words, including stories from notable names like Tarana Burke. Timely and well executed.

I followed the discourse on this one, but the book itself was much sadder than I expected. I did appreciate her thoughts on the pressure of balancing a public persona with the reality of being a messy and unfinished person, as we all are. Finished reading: Adult Braces by Lindy West π
